As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a quality bed must have. With 8 exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Chris Lee
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud Chris Lee
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief. Dreamcloud Chris Lee
Given all the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of these three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other people to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
As opposed to just describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer Dreamcloud Chris Lee
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud Chris Lee
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great solution for couples.
When buying a new bed, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Chris Lee
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I’m particularly interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
