Construction Dreamcloud Made In China
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief. Dreamcloud Made In China
Given all the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together.
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to present their opinion as well. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer Dreamcloud Made In China
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Made In China
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Made In China
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
