As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent bed must provide. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud On Slats
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud On Slats
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief. Dreamcloud On Slats
Given all of the distinct materials at play , I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another.
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is particularly essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the distances between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to note that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I invited three other people to give their view as well. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this mattress for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
Motion Transfer Dreamcloud On Slats
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud On Slats
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
While purchasing a new bed, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud On Slats
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
