Construction Dreamcloud Vs Posturepedic
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief. Dreamcloud Vs Posturepedic
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another.
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the addition of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer Dreamcloud Vs Posturepedic
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Vs Posturepedic
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
When buying a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Vs Posturepedic
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
