Construction Dreamcloud Vs Purple
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief. Dreamcloud Vs Purple
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together.
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three other individuals to give their view too. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you can see from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer Dreamcloud Vs Purple
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to know what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud Vs Purple
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
While purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Vs Purple
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
