Construction Serta Hybrid Natasha Mattress
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Serta Hybrid Natasha Mattress
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three additional people to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of the mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer Serta Hybrid Natasha Mattress
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Serta Hybrid Natasha Mattress
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Serta Hybrid Natasha Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
